Evaluation and Assessment

Evaluation and Assessment services help consumers explore options and identify immediate and long-term vocational goals. During the evaluation process vocational interests, aptitudes, strengths and limitations are identified, and then used to determine the steps necessary to reach career goals and achieve success.

     

Benefits Analysis assists individuals with disability in obtaining a clear understanding of their county and federal benefits.  Participation promotes self-advocacy and independence. 

Background Checks are used by many employers today and have become a major part of the hiring process.  Certain convictions may eliminate a candidate from particular areas of employment.  Starting with a background check can be extremely valuable and cost effective when determining a future vocational path.  Vocational Guidance Services’ Core Package includes: Criminal Records Search, Sex Offender Search and Social Security Verification.

Situational Assessment provides consumers with opportunities to test their skills and abilities in actual work environments in the manufacturing, custodial, building maintenance, clerical and sewing fields.

Vocational Evaluation uses vocational testing, work samples and career exploration to identify a person’s vocational interests, abilities and goals

   
Work Adjustment and Transitional Employment

Vocational Guidance Services pioneered the Work Adjustment technique that is used throughout the country. An ‘earn-while-you-learn’ opportunity, Work Adjustment is a transitional employment program in which consumers earn a paycheck while learning appropriate workplace behaviors, such as work quality, punctuality, and productivity.

     

Basic Life Skills provides individuals with mental retardation and/or developmental disabilities safe, supportive, and interactive services designed to assist them attaining optimal functioning.

Clerical Work Adjustment is a self-paced program that provides people with a basic understanding of the equipment and skills needed for success in an office setting.

Community-Based Work Adjustment offers transitional paid work experience in various work sites throughout the community

     

Custodial Work Adjustment combines classroom instruction with paid, hands-on work experience. Consumers learn a variety of custodial skills and techniques, including restroom care, carpet cleaning and floor waxing.

Textile Services Work Adjustment prepares consumers for vocational training and job placement through a transitional paid work experience in the textile services industry making U.S. military apparel.

Facility-Based Work Adjustment provides a variety of hands-on work experience in areas such as packaging, assembly, inspection, quality control, sorting and material handling.

     

Personal, Social, & Community provides training in daily living skills, including personal care, communication and vocational skills.  This program is specifically designed for people with mental retardation and/or developmental disabilities.

Vocational Guidance Services Skills Training programs give consumers the tools they need to gain employment. Hands-on work experience in computer, custodial, information technology, building maintenance or textile services training, provides consumers with marketable skills to take with them into the work force.

     

Adult Basic Education courses are available to prepare people for successful completion of the high school equivalency test.

Building Maintenance Skills Training provides consumers with training in areas such as plumbing, electricity, heating, air conditioning, painting, drywall and basic carpentry

Customer Service Certification Training provides training in the soft skills employers look for and are required to deliver effective customer service in any business environment. The class culminates in the students sitting for certification by the Help Desk Institute giving them a real advantage both in the interview process, on the job experience, and business Internet usage.

     

Child Care Training provides the training, support and experience needed to begin a career caring for children.  Instructor led courses provide information in everything from life saving measures such as CPR and the use of a defibrillator to engaging children in fun and educational activities.  This program is also perfect for individuals needing extra support with parenting.  A practicum at a child care facility is offered upon the completion of classroom training.

Company-Based Work Experience, a paid work experience program, is designed for people who are essentially job ready, but require additional transferable skills. An emphasis is placed on establishing a recent work history and demonstrating work readiness in a real work environment.

Computer Skills Training offers individualized computer instruction designed to enhance employability in an office setting, leading to Microsoft Office Specialist Certification.

     

Custodial Skills Training provides training in proper custodial methods, preparing trainees for janitorial/custodial positions.

Food Service/Hospitality Training provides training in the basic skills required to obtain entry-level employment in the hospitality/food industry as kitchen and dining room employees. 

Forklift Training is a comprehensive, week long program including assessment, field observation, nationally recognized core technical training, job readiness and more.  This program is  appropriate for both newly hired and experienced operators.

     

HVAC Training familiarizes individuals with important terminology, safety, proper equipment, current EPA laws, basic skills necessary for gaining employment as an
assistant/apprenticeship and provides an important introduction for those who wish to pursue advanced training in the HVAC field.

Information Technology Training teaches consumers the fundamentals needed to achieve their A+ Certification and become successful IT support technicians.

Life Skills Training workshops assist the participants in developing skills necessary to cope with real life situations with tact and confidence.  Participants in all Occupational Skills Training and Work Adjustment programs benefit from weekly Life Skills sessions.

 

 

 

Textile Services Training prepares work-ready individuals for employment in the sewing industry by familiarizing them with all aspects of a working garment factory.

Wait Staff Training provides training in the basic skills needed to obtain entry-level employment in the food service industry as a Server or Host Person.  The four-week curriculum provides class instruction and hands on experience. 

 

     

Placement Services

Once training is complete, the search for employment begins. Vocational Guidance Services’ professional staff guides consumers through the job-seeking process, from identifying employer expectations and filling out applications to resume creation and interview preparation. After a job has been secured, we provide continued guidance to help consumers achieve long-term success.

     

Drug Screening tests clients for use of alcohol, illegal substances and abuse of prescription medication.

Job Coaching provides on-the-job assistance in areas such as work sociability, acceptance of rules and supervision, personal hygiene and work quality, all helping to bridge the transition from training to work.

Job Placement & Retention program helps consumers obtain competitive employment by providing job leads, interviewing tips, and job choice guidance. Post-placement assistance is also available to ensure long-term success.

     

Job Search Skills Training prepares consumers for every aspect of a job search, including how to complete job applications, appropriate dress, resume writing and mock interview sessions.

Job Seeking Skills Training prepares clients for every aspect of a job search, including how to complete job applications, what to include in a resume and "mock" interview session.

Temporary Employment helps clients gain real-world work experience while providing local employers with dedicated, well-trained temporary workers.
